A Google Ads Audit You Keep Either Way

We review your account before quoting anything. You get the findings whether or not you hire us, including the parts that say your account is fine and you do not need an agency.

What is a Google Ads audit?

A Google Ads audit is a structured review of an advertising account to find wasted spend, broken measurement and structural problems limiting performance. A useful audit checks conversion tracking integrity first, because every conclusion drawn from the account inherits any error there, then examines structure, match types, negative keywords, bidding, landing page alignment and the damage automated recommendations have done.

We run this free because it is how we decide whether to take an engagement, and because a meaningful proportion of accounts we look at have one or two specific problems rather than a need for ongoing management. Telling someone that is more useful than selling them a retainer.

The single most common finding is not a bidding or keyword issue. It is that conversion tracking is measuring the wrong thing, double-counting, or not firing at all, and the account has been optimised for months against numbers that were never true.

Scope

What the work covers

Not a feature list. These are the areas where the work actually changes the outcome.

01

Conversion tracking integrity

Checked first, because it determines whether anything else in the account can be trusted. Duplicate conversions, form-fill events firing on page load, phone conversions counted twice across Google Ads and GA4, and imported goals measuring the wrong action are all routine findings.

02

Wasted spend

Search terms you are paying for that could never convert, broad match running without negative keyword discipline, geographic targeting including areas you cannot serve, and display placements on apps and low-quality inventory.

03

Automated recommendation damage

Auto-apply is switched on by default and it does real harm. Removing keywords it judges redundant, broadening match types, and adding terms you would never have chosen. We have seen accounts lose most of their performance to this without anyone noticing what changed. The change history usually tells the whole story.

04

Account structure

Whether campaigns and ad groups are organised so that budget, bidding and messaging can be controlled independently. Poor structure limits what any optimisation can achieve regardless of how good the optimisation is.

05

Match types and negatives

The balance between reach and control, and whether negative keyword lists are being maintained or were built once at launch and abandoned.

06

Bidding strategy fit

Whether the strategy suits your conversion volume. Smart bidding needs data; running Target CPA on an account with a handful of monthly conversions produces erratic results and is a common misapplication.

07

Ad and landing page alignment

Whether the promise in the ad matches what the landing page delivers. High click-through with low conversion almost always traces here.

08

Competitive position

Auction insights and impression share, so you can see whether you are losing to budget, to rank, or to a competitor who arrived recently.

How it runs

The sequence

In this order, because each step depends on what the previous one found.

  1. 01

    Read-only access

We ask for view access to Google Ads, Analytics and Merchant Center where relevant. We do not change anything during an audit.

  2. 02

    Review

Tracking first, then spend, structure, automation history, bidding and landing pages. Change history matters as much as current state. It shows what was done and when performance shifted.

  3. 03

    Prioritise

Findings ordered by likely rupee impact, with the cosmetic ones explicitly marked as cosmetic. Most accounts have three or four things that matter and a long tail that does not.

  4. 04

    Walk you through it

A conversation rather than a PDF, so you can ask why. If the right answer is that you should implement it yourself, we will say so.

What you receive

Deliverables

Prioritised findings

Ordered by likely impact on spend or revenue, in plain language.

Wasted spend quantified

Where identifiable from search terms, placements and geography, with the actual figures from your account.

Tracking verdict

Whether your conversion data can be trusted, and what to fix if not.

Honest recommendation

Including whether you need an agency at all.

How this is scoped and charged

Free, with no obligation and no follow-up sequence. The reason it is free is that it is our qualification step. We would rather spend a few hours finding out whether we can genuinely help than sell a retainer into an account we have not seen. If you take the findings and implement them yourself, that is a legitimate outcome.

FAQ

Questions we get asked about this

  • Read-only access to Google Ads, and ideally Analytics and Merchant Center. We do not need admin rights and we do not make changes during an audit.

  • Free, and you get the written findings regardless. We will tell you if we think you do not need us, which happens often enough that it is worth stating plainly. There is no drip sequence afterwards.

  • Two to four working days for most accounts. Larger accounts with many campaigns and a long change history take longer.

  • Still worth doing. Small accounts often have proportionally more waste, and the fixes are usually simpler. Some of the most useful audits we have run were on accounts spending under Rs 30,000 a month.
