Schema That Validates and Keeps Validating

Schema does not raise rankings, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. What it does is enable rich results and make your content unambiguous to the AI systems that increasingly answer on your behalf.

What is schema markup?

Schema markup is structured data, usually written in JSON-LD, that tells search engines and AI models what the content of a page actually means rather than leaving them to infer it. It declares that this is a product, that is its price, this organisation has these credentials, that text answers this question. It enables rich results in search and materially improves how language models parse and attribute your content.

The value of schema has shifted. It used to be about rich results: star ratings, FAQ dropdowns, product prices in the search listing. Those still matter, but the larger value now is that well-formed schema removes ambiguity when a language model retrieves your page. Accurate quotability is the entire objective of answer engine optimisation, and structured data is how you make a page easy to quote correctly.

The two failures we see constantly are marking up content that is not visible on the page, which is a guidelines violation Google does act on, and deploying schema once without ever validating it. A single malformed field invalidates the whole block, and it fails silently. Nothing breaks visibly, you simply stop getting rich results and never find out why.

Scope

What the work covers

Not a feature list. These are the areas where the work actually changes the outcome.

01

Schema strategy

Which types genuinely earn their place for your business. For most Indian businesses that is Organization or LocalBusiness at site level, BreadcrumbList across templates, FAQPage where content genuinely answers questions, Product with valid offers for e-commerce, and Article for editorial. Beyond those the returns fall away quickly and additional types are mostly noise.

02

Template-level implementation

Deployed per template rather than page by page, so it scales with your content and stays consistent. Hand-written schema on individual pages drifts out of sync the moment someone edits the content.

03

Entity consistency

Your organisation described identically everywhere it appears: site schema, Google Business Profile, directory listings, social profiles. Inconsistent entity data fragments how models understand who you are, which is one of the more damaging and least visible problems in this area.

04

FAQPage discipline

One FAQPage block per page. Two blocks makes Google ignore both, and it is a surprisingly common error on sites where a plugin and a template each generate one. The answer-first block should lead.

05

Product and offer markup

For e-commerce: valid offers, accurate price and availability matching the page, and aggregate ratings only where real reviews are actually displayed. Marking up reviews you do not show is a violation and we will not do it.

06

Validation

Every template run through the Rich Results Test and the Schema Markup Validator, with errors and warnings resolved rather than tolerated. Warnings are usually worth fixing even though they are not errors.

07

Update resilience

Theme and plugin updates routinely break schema silently. We build it so it is not dependent on a plugin's output where that matters, and re-validate after updates rather than assuming.

08

AI crawler access

Checking that robots.txt actually permits the crawlers you want citing you. Blocking them by default and then wondering why you are never cited is a common and self-inflicted problem.

How it runs

The sequence

In this order, because each step depends on what the previous one found.

  1. 01

    Audit existing markup

What is deployed, what validates, what is duplicated and what is contradicting itself. Most sites have some schema, and a decent share of it is broken.

  2. 02

    Decide the type strategy

Which types for which templates, and explicitly which ones are not worth deploying.

  3. 03

    Implement per template

JSON-LD written into templates, with entity data drawn from a single source so it cannot drift.

  4. 04

    Validate and monitor

Full validation across every template, then periodic re-validation, particularly after theme or plugin updates.

What you receive

Deliverables

Schema audit

What exists, what validates, what is broken or duplicated.

Template-level JSON-LD

Deployed across the site, scaling with content.

Validation report

Every template clean against the Rich Results Test and Schema Markup Validator.

Entity consistency check

Your organisation described identically across the properties you control.

How this is scoped and charged

A fixed-fee project scoped on template count rather than page count, since implementation is per template. Ongoing validation folds into an SEO or maintenance retainer. Where a site already has decent plugin-generated schema, the work is often smaller than expected and we will scope it that way rather than rebuilding what works.

FAQ

Questions we get asked about this

  • Not directly, and we would rather say so. It enables rich results, which improve click-through, and it improves how AI systems parse your content. Both are worth having. Neither is a ranking factor and any agency selling it as one is misrepresenting it.

  • Partly. They generate reasonable defaults but cannot know your specific service structure or which subtype fits your business. Expect to supplement plugin output with custom JSON-LD for anything specific, and to check that the plugin is not generating a second conflicting block.

  • Marking up content that is not visible on the page is a guidelines violation and Google does issue manual actions for it. Fake reviews and invented ratings are the most common cause. Accurate schema describing real page content carries no risk.

  • After every theme or plugin update, and otherwise a couple of times a year. It breaks silently, so the only way to know is to check. Nothing alerts you when rich results stop appearing.
